Ninian Dunbar of Grangehill
Ninian Dunbar was the eldest son and heir to Mark Dunbar and Isabel Falconer. As the Laird of Grangehill, he controlled other properties in Dyke including Kintessack. He married first Marion or Mary Ogilvie, the daughter of Walter Ogilvy, Lord Banff, by contract dated 16 February 1614. By her Ninian had at least three sons: (1) the eldest, Robert, who became his heir and Sir Robert Dunbar of Grangehill; (2) David, who became David Dunbar of Kirkhill and the progenitor of the Dunbars of Durn; and (3) Walter, likely named after his maternal grandfather. Marion died before 1634 and the sons were likely born between 1615 and 1622. Ninian then married Finduella Dunbar, the daughter of John Dunbar of Bennagefield (Bennetsfield), by whom he had numerous additional children beginning before 1635.. Finduella was the mother of John Dunbar of Wellhead and William Dunbar of Kintessack, who became William Dunbar 1st of Durn. Ninian died in 1673, likely at Kintessack, and Finduella died in 1674. Their deaths are recorded in the Dyke parish registers.
